Developed in 1965 by Bell, the AH-1G combat helicopter had a single-rotor design with a tail rotor, one gas turbine engine and ski landing gear. The helicopter fuselage is all-metal, semi-monocoque type. The crew cabin is two-seater, with gunner and pilot seats located one behind the other. The helicopter began being delivered to the US Army in the summer of 1967 and was actively used during the Vietnam War. During the years of fighting in Southeast Asia, Cobras demonstrated excellent survivability. They proved to be reliable and powerful means of air support for ground troops, and after the end of hostilities, helicopters continued to remain in service with the US Army.
