In 1963, the USA announced a competition for the development of an aircraft for use in limited military conflicts. Its main tasks were striking ground targets, direct air support of its troops, advanced surveillance and guidance. In August 1964, the project of the North American company was recognized as the winner of the competition, in the armed forces it received the designation OV-10A and the proper name Bronco. Combat testing of the aircraft in Vietnam began in the summer of 1968.
