The Chance Vought F4U Corsair was an American fighter jet used primarily during World War II and the Korean War. Demand for the aircraft soon outstripped Vought's production capacity, leading to production by Goodyear: the Goodyear-built Corsairs were designated FG. From the initial delivery of the US Navy prototype in 1940 to the remaining delivery in 1953 to the French Vought produced 12,571 F4U Corsairs in 16 separate models, the longest piston fighter production run in US history.
