It was developed as a replacement for the Seversky P-35 aircraft. The P-47 Thunderbolt was the US Air Force's largest, heaviest, and most expensive piston-engine fighter. It was one of the most widespread aircraft of the Second World War, which was in service with the American Air Force, as well as the air forces of allied countries.
