Dassault Mirage III is a single or two-seat fighter, fighter-interceptor, fighter-bomber. Developed by the French company Dassault Aviation in the late 1950s, it was the first European fighter to fly twice the speed of sound.
Mirage III has many modifications. It was produced in large quantities both for the French Air Force and for a wide range of export customers. A total of 870 aircraft were built, or 1,401 if the Mirage 5 modification is taken into account. Switzerland, Australia and Belgium produced it under license. Based on the Mirage 5, Israel developed its IAI Kfir, IAI Nesher aircraft.
