The Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon was developed in the 1970s as a lightweight fighter for air superiority and ground support. The first flight of the prototype took place on January 20, 1974. The F-16 became known for its maneuverability, versatility and relatively low operating costs. This variant, first introduced into service in 1984, is an improved version of the original F-16A/B with upgrades to fire control systems and electronics. In particular, the Block 25 was the first production fighter to be equipped with the AN/APG-68 radar, which greatly improved detection and targeting capabilities.
