In the early 1930s, the world had the idea of creating a high-speed bomber that could outrun contemporary biplane fighters. One of the embodiments of this concept was the twin-engine bomber He 111, developed by the German company Heinkel Flugzugwerke. From May 1941, the production of He 111H-6 aircraft began with increased armament and liquid-cooled Jumo 211F-2 engines of increased power with VS 11 propellers, which had wider wooden blades. The He 111H-6 was the most massive variant of the Heinkel medium bomber.

Heinkel He 111Z-1 Zwilling ("Twins") - two He 111H-6s connected by a new wing section on which the fifth engine is installed. It was designed to tow an Me 321 glider or two Go 242 gliders. 12 aircraft were built by the end of spring 1942. The He 111Z-1 was used mainly on the Eastern Front as glider tugs, as well as transport aircraft.
