Grumman's short-wing F4F Wildcat is one of the most famous and successful fighters. The F4F-3 Wildcat had a fairly short, rounded fuselage with rectangular mid-wings. The wings did not fold to store the trunk. All the main parts of the aircraft were located in the front part of the loose fuselage, the fuel tank and the removable landing gear were located directly under the pilot.
