Grumman F6F Hellcat (Eng. Grumman F6F Hellcat, Ukrainian F6F Hellcat) was an American carrier-based fighter aircraft manufactured by Grumman during World War II. Designed to replace the previous version of the F4F "Wildcat" fighter and counter the Japanese A6M "Zero". The aircraft was the dominant US Navy carrier-based fighter in the second part of the Pacific War, surpassing the faster F4U Corsair, which, however, had problems landing on an aircraft carrier. In September 1943, the F6F made its debut in combat and soon became the most famous aircraft due to its reputation as a reliable, well-designed naval fighter that was able to outdo the A6M Zero and help master the air in the Pacific theater of war.
