M163 VADS is an anti-aircraft self-propelled installation produced by the American company General Electric Company in the 1960s. The configuration of the ZSU was developed on the basis of the M113 armored personnel carrier, which was armed with a 20-mm high-speed six-barreled aviation cannon with a rotating block of barrels M61 Vulcan, installed in a small tower above the hull, and an AN/VPS-2 radar system for fire control. The M163 was designed to strengthen air defense units armed with M48 Chaparrel anti-aircraft missile systems and to provide ground forces with air defense. The massive firepower of the 20 mm gun was also widely used against ground targets.
