The 75-mm self-propelled howitzer Howitzer Motor Carriage M8, also known as the "Scott", is a self-propelled artillery unit of the United States during World War II, a class of self-propelled howitzers, light in weight. Created in 1941-1942 on the basis of the light tank M5 "Stuart". The M8 was actively used in battles in Europe in 1943-1945, although by 1945 it had been largely replaced in service by the M4 Sherman tank variant with a 105 mm howitzer. Its verbal name ("Scott"), traditional for American armored vehicles, was given in honor of the American general of the Mexican-American War and the Civil War - Winfield Scott.
