Adopted by the Soviet Army of the USSR Armed Forces in 1946, mass-produced since 1947, constantly being modernized.
Since 1958, its modification was produced under the name T-55, adapted for combat operations in the conditions of the use of nuclear weapons.
In 1961-1967, it was mainly replaced in the production and TV of the USSR Armed Forces by the T-62 tank, created on its basis, but the production of the T-55 at OZTM continued until 1979.
