The Panzerkampfwagen I was the first tank designed and mass-produced by German industry. It was created in the early 1930s to provide the German army with a light tank capable of respecting the restrictions imposed by the Treaty of Versailles, useful for training the crews of future tank divisions and capable of supporting infantry operations. Armed with two twin 7.92 mm machine guns mounted in the turret, it was very mobile but poorly armored.
