The third generation M1 Abrams tank forms the backbone of the US Army and Marine Corps armored divisions. The Abrams is distinguished by heavy armor (it is one of the heaviest combat vehicles in the world) and a powerful multi-fuel gas turbine engine. Much attention was paid to the protection of the crew thanks to a separate and well-protected ammunition load. The M1 Abrams, which entered service in the early 1980s to replace the aging M-60s, offers a sophisticated fire control system and advanced armor. Initially armed with a 105 mm cannon. it was subsequently equipped with the most modern and powerful 120 mm smoothbore gun, capable of firing a wide variety of projectiles. The Abrams was widely used with lethal effectiveness in every major theater of war from the Middle East to Afghanistan, proving its superiority over every other enemy tank.
