In 1942, Krupp began developing a heavy self-propelled gun mount for the 17 cm Kanone or 21 cm Mörser, using Tiger automotive components such as engine, transmission, steel road wheels and tracks. The total weight with a crew of 8 was about 60 tons, the thickness of the armor was 30 mm in front and 16 mm on the sides, the maximum off-road speed was 45 km/h. A partially assembled prototype was found in 1945 by Allied troops at Haustenbeck near Paderborn.
