T-80U (GBTU index - Object 219AS) is a Soviet main battle tank of the T-80 family. It was produced since 1985 in Leningrad and Omsk, and in Kharkiv they produced the T-80UD (Object 478B) - a version of the T-80U with a diesel engine, not a gas turbine engine. The T-80U and UD were the most powerful tanks of the USSR.
The tank took an occasional part in the war in eastern Ukraine in 2015. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian units equipped with T-80Us suffered heavy losses, and a significant number of tanks became Ukrainian trophies.
