Soviet light amphibious tank of the World War II period. Developed in the first half of 1939 at the Moscow Plant No. 37 under the direction of N.A. Astrov, the leading developer of the entire Soviet line of small and light tanks of that period. In December of the same year, the T-40 was adopted by the Red Army and mass-produced at plant number 37.
