Soviet light amphibious tank of the World War II period. Developed in the first half of 1939 at the Moscow Plant No. 37 under the direction of N.A. Astrov, the leading developer of the entire Soviet line of small and light tanks of that period. The production of the T-40, including its land-based variants, continued until December 1941, when it was replaced on assembly lines by a more powerful light tank T -60.
