Light escort tank R 35 - French infantry tank of the 1930s, light in weight. Developed in 1934 - 1935 to replace the outdated FT-17 as an infantry escort tank. During the serial production in 1935 - 1940, 1630 units were produced, which made it the most massive French tank of the interwar period. R 39 modification 1939 with SA 38 gun with a barrel length of 33 caliber, the exact number of tanks produced is not known. So, one of the first tanks to receive the new gun had No. 51295. However, analysis of photographs shows that about half of the tanks built after No. 51295 had the old SA 18. Thus, we can talk about no more than 150 vehicles.
