The R 35 light escort tank is a French infantry tank of the 1930s, light in weight. Developed in 1934-1935 to replace the outdated FT-17 as an infantry escort tank. During serial production in 1935-1940, 1630 units were produced, which made it the most massive French tank of the interwar period. It was actively supplied by France to other countries, of the tanks produced, 560 were intended for export. With the outbreak of World War II, the R 35 was actively used by France in the fighting in 1940, and after its surrender by the Vichy forces in the fighting against the Allies in North Africa.
