The M198 (English 155-mm Medium Towed Howitzer M198) was a US 155-mm towed howitzer of the 1970s. It was created by the Rock Island Arsenal in 1968-1977 to replace the 155-mm divisional howitzer M114 during the Second World War, which remained in service with the United States for more than a quarter of a century.
The M198 was adopted by the US Army and Marine Corps in 1978, and its mass production began in the same year, with a total of about 1,700 guns of this type.
