Tas Röhamloveg was a tank destroyer project developed together with the 44M Tas tank on the same chassis. It began in 1944, when some officers who participated in the design of the 44M Tas thought that it would be a good idea to start a heavy tank destroyer project together with the development of the tank. Undoubtedly, they were influenced by the successes of such German machines, which were not only extremely deadly, but also cheaper to manufacture than conventional tanks. Their silhouette was also lower, they were harder to spot, easier to ambush, and they were generally suited to the defensive warfare in which both the German and Hungarian armies found themselves.
