Size of the finished model: 36*27*52

Falkenstein Castle is located in Austria, in the district of Carinthia, near the town of Oberfellach in the Mell Valley. It was built in the 11th century, and in 1164 there were mentions of the castle in some documents. Today it is divided into two castles located on the same mountain, one of them 600 feet from the other. The highest is a ruin with a chapel that is still in use, the chapel of John the Baptist. The other castle has been restored, but is currently uninhabited. It was designed to gain access from the east for defensive purposes. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times. At the beginning of this century, the current owner began a major restoration project.
