The first Chinese SSBN (nuclear ballistic missile submarine), made in a single copy. The only SSBN of the Xia project was laid down in 1978 at the Huludao shipyard. The submarine was launched on April 30, 1981, but due to technical difficulties that arose, the submarine was commissioned only in 1987. After being commissioned by the Chinese Navy, the Xia submarine was assigned an individual tail number 406.
