RMS Titanic was an Olympic-class passenger liner owned by the White Star Line and built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, New York. On the night of April 14, 1912, on her maiden voyage, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank two hours and forty minutes later, in the early morning hours of April 15, 1912, with the loss of 1,514 lives. At the time of its launch in 1912, it was the largest passenger steamship in the world.
