USS Missouri (BB-63) ("Mighty Mo" or "Big Mo") is an Iowa-class battleship and the third ship of the US Navy, named after the state of Missouri. "Missouri" is the last battleship built in the United States. The ship is best known as the site of the signing of the Act of Surrender of Japan, which ended World War II.
"Missouri" was ordered in 1940 and commissioned in June 1944. In the Pacific Theater of World War II, the ship participated in the battles for Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and shelled the Japanese islands. She also participated in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. The battleship was placed in reserve in 1955, but was restored and modernized in 1984.
