"Kyiv" is the first ship of the USSR aircraft carriers of the "Kyiv" class. The first launch took place in July 1970. In May 1975, Kiev officially became part of the USSR Navy and served in the former USSR Pacific Fleet. There are eight missile launchers located on the forward deck, as well as a number of other functional missile launchers on four sides of the upper deck. The aircraft carrier is also equipped with four conventional 76mm guns, making it very different from US Navy ships. Kiev is the first aircraft carrier to carry vertical and short-range take-off fighters on board.
