Furutaka is a heavy cruiser of the Imperial Japanese Navy, which took part in World War II.
The ship, which belonged to the Furutaka-type cruisers, was built in 1926 at the Mitsubishi shipyard in Nagasaki.
Immediately after construction, a platform for launching a Heinkel HD 25 seaplane was installed on one of the cruiser's turrets. However, this system was not very promising and was removed within three years, and in 1932, during the modernization, a catapult was installed on Furutaka and it was made possible to carry a Nakajima E4N2 seaplane. At the same time, the 76 mm anti-aircraft guns were replaced with four 120 mm.
