The Type 23 frigate is a Royal Navy class frigate of the United Kingdom. All ships are named after British dukes, which is why the class is also known as the Duke class. The first Type 23 entered service in 1989, while the sixteenth, HMS St Albans, was launched in May 2000 and entered service in June 2002. reaffirmed its reputation as a leader in anti-submarine defense.
HMS kent (F78) was commissioned on 8 June 2000 and was the first ship to enter service with the Royal Navy in the 21st century. She is currently being converted to Rosyth.
