Condorcet (fr. Condorcet) is a squadron battleship of the French Navy. The third in a series of 6 units (Danton, Condorcet, Diderot, Voltaire, Mirabeau, Vergniaud). Named after the French mathematician Marquis de Condorcet. When the First World War began in August 1914, the Condorcet participated in the search for the German battlecruiser Goeben and the light cruiser Breslau in the Western and Central Mediterranean. Later that month, he took part in the sinking of the Austro-Hungarian cruiser Zenta in the Adriatic Sea. For most of the war, the ship blocked the Straits of Otranto and the Dardanelles, preventing German, Austro-Hungarian and Turkish warships from entering the Mediterranean.
