Cavalry regiments were considered the elite of the Confederate military during the American Civil War. The uniform had yellow chevrons denoting the attributes of knighthood. Individual weapons, as well as uniform options, were very diverse. Among the most famous cavalry commanders is James Ewell Brown Stewart, famous for his courage shown already during the first battle of Bull Run.
