Sikorsky H-19 Chickasaw[a] is a multi-purpose helicopter developed by Sikorsky Aircraft on behalf of the US Armed Forces. In 1948, Sikorsky I. I. received a contract for five general-purpose S-55 helicopters for testing in the US Air Force under the designation YH-19. On November 10, 1949, the first of them took to the air. On April 28, 1950, the US Navy ordered 10 HO4S-1s (similar to the H-19A), followed by 61 HO4S-3s, based on the H-19B. The US Coast Guard developed the HO4S-3G, a rescue version of the H-19.
