Description
The Boeing B-52 "Stratofortress" (eng. Boeing B-52 Stratofortress - "Stratofortress") is an American multifunctional heavy ultra-long-range intercontinental strategic bomber-missile carrier of the second generation of the Boeing company, which has been in service with the US Air Force since 1955. This aircraft replaced the B -36 and B-47. At subsonic speeds at altitudes up to 15 kilometers, it is capable of carrying various types of weapons, including nuclear ones. The main task for which the B-52 was developed was to deliver two high-yield thermonuclear bombs to any point in the USSR. One of the modifications of the B-52 - B-52G - is the absolute champion in range among combat aircraft. It is also one of the few military aircraft in continuous service for more than half a century. Despite the fact that the B-52 was developed in the 50s under the requirements of the Cold War, it still remains the main long-range bomber aircraft of the US Air Force and will remain so until at least 2030.
