Armament: a closed VUB-1 turret with a 12.7 mm UBT machine gun, with an ammunition load of 200 rounds, was installed, which provided a larger firing sector. As an aerodynamic compensator for the massive barrel of the UBT machine gun, two vertical surfaces, which were mounted on the roof of the turret, played the role. A negative consequence of the introduction of the VUB-1 turret was a decrease in the maximum aircraft speed by 8–12 km/h due to an increase in drag.
External changes: the shape of the portholes, in which the onboard ShKAS was mounted, was changed: the machine gun, depending on the external threat, threw the gunner from side to side.
