The AMX is an attack aircraft for battlefield interception, close air support and reconnaissance. It was produced until 1999 by the Italian-Brazilian joint venture AMX International and was designated A-1 by the Brazilian Air Force.
The AMX is capable of operating at high subsonic speeds and low altitudes day and night, and if necessary from bases with poorly equipped or damaged runways. Low IR signature and reduced radar equivalent cross section help prevent detection, while low structural and systems vulnerability improves survivability. Integrated electronic warfare, air-to-air missiles and nose guns provide self-defense capabilities.
