McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II (eng. McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II) is a fighter-bomber, fighter-interceptor, and third-generation ground support aircraft. The world's first serial fighter aircraft carrying medium-range missiles. The aircraft was developed on behalf of the US Navy as a carrier-based all-weather air defense fighter to protect ships and was intended to replace the outdated F-3 Demon carrier-based fighter. In the 50s of the 20th century, the Americans needed a high-speed aircraft with missile weapons and a fairly distant interception point for Soviet jet bombers, as well as jet fighters.
