McDonnell F-101 Voodoo is a supersonic jet fighter, designed and manufactured by the American corporation McDonnell Aircraft Corporation.
The development of the F-101 began in the late 1940s as a long-range escort bomber (then known as a penetration fighter) for the Strategic Air Command (SAC) of the United States Air Force (USAF). It was also adapted as a nuclear fighter-bomber for the Tactical Air Command (TAC) of the United States Air Force and as a photo reconnaissance aircraft based on the same airframe. It made its first flight on September 29, 1954. On December 12, 1957, the F-101A set a number of world speed records for jet aircraft, including the highest speed, reaching 1,207.6 km/h.
