The P-47 Thunderbolt is an American fighter-bomber of the Second World War, produced from 1941 to 1945, the largest single-engine fighter of those times. The P-47 was developed based on the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, which was also used in the US Navy and US Marine Corps Grumman F6F Hellcat and Vought F4U Corsair fighters. "Thunderbolt" was effective as a short- and medium-range escort fighter, in high-altitude air battles, as well as in ground attack in both the European and the Pacific theaters of war. He was one of the main fighters of the USAF during the war, especially he performed the role of an attack aircraft. Thanks to the radial engine and protected gas tanks, it was distinguished by its high survivability
