Aero L-39 Albatros is a training and combat jet aircraft of the Czechoslovak aircraft company Aero Vodochody with a Soviet engine. The aircraft was intended to replace the Aero L-29 Delfin. It made its first flight on November 4, 1968, becoming the world's first training aircraft equipped with a turbofan engine. Serial production of the L-39 Albatros began in 1971, and a year later most Warsaw Pact countries officially recognized it as their main training aircraft (NTL). It was mass-produced until 1996 (2,868 aircraft were built). It is in service with more than 30 countries around the world.
