The FJ-2 Fury was the result of requests from the US Navy and US Marine Corps for a carrier-based swept-wing version of the F-86 Saber fighter. Carrier-based fighters of that time still used the straight-wing aerodynamic solution. Production of the Fury began in 1952 with the necessary design modifications for takeoff and landing on aircraft carriers. The aircraft featured a folding wing to optimize space on board, a longer nose and a reinforced landing gear. Thanks to the General Electric J47 jet engine, the Fury had good flight characteristics and a maximum speed of 1086 km/h. He was armed with four Colt Mk-12 guns. The next version, the North American FJ-3, was equipped with a new engine with improved performance.
