The Grumman TBF Avenger was introduced to the US Navy in 1942 as a replacement for the Douglas TBD Devastator. It was a large deck aircraft powered by a single 1,700 hp Wright R2600-8 engine. His role is a torpedo boat, crew of three. The Avenger was distinguished by having a mechanically driven turret directly behind the cockpit. The Avenger had an outstanding war record from its disastrous debut at Midway to the bombing of Tokyo.
