Douglas TBD Devastator (English Douglas TBD Devastator, "Devastator") is an American three-seater deck-based torpedo boat and bomber.
Created by the Douglas Aircraft Company under the leadership of Frank Fleming. The first flight of the XTBD-1 prototype was on April 15, 1935. Serial production began in 1937. From October of the same year, it was used from aircraft carriers. A total of 130 aircraft were built. In addition to the prototype, two batches of serial machines were produced. In 1937, the first batch of 114 aircraft was ordered. In 1938, a second batch of 14 machines was ordered to cover operating losses.
