The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is an American carrier-based multi-role fighter, created on the basis of the F/A-18 Hornet. Development began in 1992 by McDonnell Douglas, but after its merger with Boeing, the latter acquired all rights to the aircraft. The first flight of the F/A-18E/F took place on November 29, 1995. Serial production began in 1997, for this purpose a separate assembly line was created at the aircraft factory in St. Louis.
