The Tu-22M3 (Backfire) is a Soviet supersonic long-range missile bomber with variable wing geometry, developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau to engage sea and ground targets with cruise missiles (in particular the Kh-22/Kh-32, used by Russia against Ukraine), bombs and nuclear weapons. It has a high speed of up to 2,300 km/h, but its design had flaws that led to accidents, although a modernized version of the Tu-22M3M exists, and these aircraft continue to be used.
