2S14 "Sting-S" was first developed in the late 70s. It was designed to keep pace with Soviet armored personnel carriers such as the BTR-60 and BTR-70 and protect them from enemy tanks.
To do this, Soviet engineers attached an 85-mm anti-tank gun to the chassis of the BTR-70.
At the time it was a small caliber MBT capable of hitting NATO vehicles, but the chassis of the BTR-70 could hardly withstand any incoming damage.
The Zhalo gun, 2A62, is a development of the D-44 anti-tank gun from World War II.
