Leopard 2 is a German main battle tank of the third generation. Developed by Krauss-Maffei in the 1970s, it entered service in 1979 to replace the previous Leopard 1 as the main tank of the West German ground forces.
Various versions are used by the armed forces of Germany and 13 other European countries, as well as several non-European countries, including Canada, Chile, Indonesia and Singapore.
