The history of the Unimog S 404 military vehicle began in the post-war period, when the *Bundeswehr* (German Armed Forces) identified a need for a lightweight, multi-purpose truck capable of performing various tasks in challenging off-road conditions. The resulting Unimog S 404 was quite compact, featuring a 2,900 mm wheelbase and a payload capacity of 1.5 tons. It was powered by a 2,195 cc six-cylinder carbureted engine producing 82 horsepower. Thanks to its robust frame, all-wheel drive, and efficient suspension, the vehicle demonstrated exceptional off-road capability.
