The AMX “Ghibli” single-engine ground attack aircraft is the result of collaboration between the Italian and Brazilian aeronautical industries. The project was set up during the 1980s to replace the dated Fiat G-91Y fighter-bombers in the flight departments of the Italian Air Force. Added to this need was that of the Brazilian Air Force for the replacement of the MB-326s. The AMX has an aerodynamic layout characterized by the high swept wing configuration and, thanks to its Rolls-Royce Spey 807 engine, it can reach a maximum speed of 1,000 km/h. It is armed, in the Italian version, with a 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannon and can carry an offensive load of 3,800 kg.
