The T-72 "Ural" is the main battle tank of the second generation, developed in the USSR. Adopted by the Soviet Army in 1973. During the 30 years of production, 14 major modifications were made. Among other things, the B-46 diesel engine (further development of the B-2 engine installed on the T-34), as well as the undercarriage of Object 167 (further development of the T-62) was used here. Unlike the T-64, which was classified, the T-72 was widely supplied both to the Warsaw Pact countries and for export outside of it, in particular to Finland, India, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. It is still in service in many countries. Modifications of the T-72 were produced under license in Yugoslavia (M-84)
