Since 1936, as part of the construction program of the German National Railways (DRG), a class of “standard” BR 41 locomotives has been developed for fast good trains. During its testing period, the BR 41 was nicknamed the "Bull Locomotive" as it was used to haul fast cattle trains. Subsequently, a total of 366 BR 41 locomotives were built, divided between almost all German locomotive builders. BR 41 was designed as a so-called multi-purpose locomotive. In addition to its direct application - transportation of express freight - the maximum speed of 90 km/h made it possible to use it for fast and even express passenger trains.
