The S 35 (French: Char 1935 S, also S-35 and Somua S35) is a French medium tank of the 1930s. It was developed by the Somua company in 1934-1935 as the main tank for armored cavalry units, which is why it is sometimes classified in the literature as a "cavalry" or "cruiser" tank. The first pre-production S 35s were produced in 1936, and mass serial production began in 1938 and continued until the defeat of France in June 1940. A total of 427 tanks of this type were produced.
